Thailand defeats Netherlands by eight wickets

KATHMANDU: Thailand secured a convincing 8-wicket victory against the Netherlands in the second match of the Nepal Women’s T20 Tri-Series at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Friday.

Batting first, the Netherlands scored 122 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply, Thailand scored 125 runs for the loss of two wickets with 12 balls to spare.

The Netherlands made a poor start with the bat both its openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sterre Kalis were run out for two and four runs, respectively. Captain Babette de Leede scored 52 off 50 balls and Iris Zwilling got hit 28 off 35 balls to take the score past 100 runs. Other Dutch batters failed to reach double digits.

Thipatcha Putthawong took two wickets for Thailand, while Onnicha Kamchomphu secured a wicket.

In reply, Thailand lost opener Nattaya Boochatham early for 10 runs, but a second-wicket partnership between Aphishara Suwanchonrathi (28) and Nannapat Koncharoenkai (56* off 50 balls) steadied the innings. Nanapat hit five fours in her match-winning knock. She found support from Natthakan Chantham who scored an unbeaten 23 off 25 balls.

Iris Zwilling and Caroline de Lange took a wicket each for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands defeated Nepal by 20 runs in the tri-series opener on Thursday. Nepal will now face Thailand in the third match of the tri-series on Saturday.
