T20 World Cup: Semifinal matches from Wednesday

KATHMANDU: The knockout stage of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins on Wednesday, with four teams battling for a place in Sunday’s final.

India sealed the last semifinal berth with a five-wicket win over West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday evening. The victory confirmed India as Group 1 runners-up behind South Africa.

South Africa, who are the only undefeated side in the T20 World Cup, topped Group 1.

Similarly, England finished first in Group 2, while New Zealand progressed as the runners-up from Group 2.

Three of the four semifinalists — England, India, and South Africa — had also reached the semifinals in 2024. India went on to lift the title that year by defeating South Africa in the final.

New Zealand take on South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, before India lock horns with England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede in Mumbai on Thursday.

The winners will meet in the final on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to decide the 2026 champion.
