KATHMANDU: New Zealand hammered the UAE by 10 wickets in the Group D fixture of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup on Tuesday.
Batting first in Chennai, UAE, posted 173 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply, New Zealand scored 175 without losing any wickets with 28 balls to spare.
Although the UAE lost opener Aryansh Sharma (8) cheaply, Captain Muhammad Waseem (66) and Alishan Sharafu (55) scored half-centuries to set the course for a huge total. However, Kiwi bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals after Sharafu fell in the 15th over. Except for Mayank Kumar, who scored 21, other UAE batters failed to reach double digits.
Matt Henry claimed two wickets for New Zealand, while Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, and Glenn Phillips picked up a wicket each.
New Zealand openers made light work of the chase. Tim Siefert scored an unbeaten 89 off 42 balls, while Finn Allen hit 84 off 50 balls, and New Zealand achieved the target in 15.2 overs.
