Suspect in the murder of Nira Pandey arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man on charges of murdering Nira Pandey in her shop in Saraswatinagar, Kathmandu, on April 20.

Binod Bishwkarma was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police from Dhulabari of Jhapa. He was presented before the media on Sunday.

Investigation revealed that Binod stayed in Kathmandu for about a week after Nira’s murder. He observed the activities in Nira’s shop for some time before committing the crime, according to the police.

“On that day, he first entered Nira’s shop at around 2 am but returned without buying anything. He then entered an ATM at around 2:33 pm and again entered the shop at 2:44 pm. He then took a knife kept on sale at the shop and stabbed her multiple times,” CIB spokesperson Dinesh Acharya said.

“When Nira fell down, Binod fled, taking her gold chain and Rs 1,200 from the shop’s counter. He hailed a Safe tempo and rode to Om Hospital. Binod then reached Jadibuti riding pillion on a motorbike and then walked to his friend’s place in Lokanthali.”

Police have recovered the clothes and shoes that Binod was wearing while committing the crime. According to CBI, Binod sold the gold chain at Pathibhara Jewelers, Tarakeshwar, on April 26 for Rs 55,000. He left for Jhapa on the same day.
