Suryadarshan’s former secretary Nakarmi sent to judicial custody

POKHARA: Kaski District Court has sent Anuj Nakarmi, a former secretary of Suryadarshan Cooperative Ltd, to judicial custody.

A single bench of District Court Judge Hari Prasad Koirala issued the order on Wednesday.

Nakrami, a 48-year-old resident of Pokhara-17, Gharipatan, was arrested from Dakshinakali, Kathmandu, last week. He had been absconding after allegedly misappropriating and embezzling over Rs 1.11 billion of the cooperative’s funds together with other officials of the cooperatives.

Police had presented Nakrami before the district court on August 18.

The case of embezzlement and misappropriation of the cooperative’s funds is currently under trial at the Kaski District Court. A total of 19 individuals, including the founding chairperson of the cooperative, Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, have been named defendants in the case. Six of them – Vice-chairperson Kailash Kumar Darlami, Treasurer Kumar Ramtel, former board members Shiva Bahadur Gurung, Bhabishwar Aryal, and board member Pramad Bhattarai – have been arrested. They have been sent to judicial custody.

The founding chairperson Rai, former chairpersons Bhupendra Rai and Than Bahadur Budhamar, secretary Dhiraj Kumar Das, accounts officer Sristi Manadhar, credit officer Buddhi Gurung, and members Hemanta Adhikari, Aishma Gurung, Kabita Tamang, Sagar KC, Lalita Tamang, Dinesh Roka and Suraj Shrestha are still absconding.

The cooperative has 1,035 depositors.
