SURKHET: Surkhet Airport will remain closed until Saturday for runway repairs.
According to Hirajan Kafle, chief of Surkhet Civil Aviation Office, the airport was initially shut down for two days after a pothole appeared on the northern side of the runway on Tuesday.
While repairs were underway to fulfill the airport, water began seeping from underground near the same spot.
Kafle said the closure was necessary due to the water seepage and confirmed. “Repair works are ongoing. We expect to complete the repairs by Saturday and resume flight operations,” he added.
Although the pothole is being filled, Kafle said that a geological survey is required to address the underlying issue.
The closure of Surkhet Airport has forced passengers to travel to Nepalgunj for air services.
