Surendra Acharya sworn in as Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Poudel administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Surendra Acharya, on Sunday.

Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, President Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and chiefs and officials of different constitutional bodies were present on the occasion.

Acharya is the general secretary of the Lumbini Province Committee of the Nepali Congress. Prior to that, he served as the president of the Kapilvastu district committee of the party for two consecutive terms.

Mahendra Raya Yadav, who was looking after the Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, has been given a new responsibility of Ministry of Water Supply.

He was elected to the House of Representatives from the Kapilvastu-2 constituency, defeating CPN-UML’s Birjesh Gupta. Acharya is closely associated with the anti-establishment faction of the party led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala.

He briefly served as the Minister of State for Irrigation after the 2013 Constituent Assembly election.
