KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has sought a detailed report from the Tulsipur High Court regarding its decision to remand Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane into judicial custody in connection with an ongoing cooperative fraud case.
A single bench of Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the order following a preliminary hearing on a petition challenging the high court’s decision, which had overturned the Rupandehi District Court’s order to release Lamichhane on bail of Rs 10 million.
The Supreme Court will decide whether to uphold the high court’s ruling or allow Lamichhane to remain out of custody during trial after reviewing the full text of the high court’s verdict.
The Butwal Bench of the high court reversed the district court’s order to release Lamichhane on bail on April 4 and directed authorities to place Lamichhane in judicial custody. He was subsequently arrested at his residence in Budhanilkantha later that night.
