KATHMANDU: The clash between two groups in Sunsari has now been brought under control.
The Sunsari District Administration Office had imposed prohibitory orders in five local units in the district, including Harinagar Rural Municipality, after a clash between two groups erupted at Bhutaha on Friday morning.
“The clash between the two groups has now been brought under control by the police. The police were able to contain the situation after the local administration issued prohibitory orders in five local units,” said SP Bipin Regmi, chief of the District Police Office, Sunsari.
According to the Acting Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Bedraj Phuyal, the police had to fire 80 rounds in the air and 40 tear gas shells to subdue the situation in Bhutaha.
The local administration initially enforced prohibitory orders in all wards of Harinagar Rural Municipality and wards 1 and 7 of Dewangunj Rural Municipality. It later expanded prohibitory orders to cover the entire areas of Inarua Municipality and Harinagar, Dewangunj, Bhokraha Narsingh, and Koshi rural municipalities.
A total of 29 individuals, including 19 police personnel, were injured in the clash. Five of them are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, added police.
