Sunita Thapa to become Gandaki Province Assembly member

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to recommend Sunita Thapa from Syangja to fill the vacant proportional seat in the Gandaki Province Assembly.

A meeting of the Central Work Performance Committee of the party held on Monday decided to recommend her name to the Election Commission, according to Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, the spokesperson for the party.

The seat became vacant following the demise of Gandaki Province Assembly member Bimala Gauchan on November 13.

According to the proportional list submitted by the NC during the elections, Thapa is fifth on the list of Indigenous Nationalities cluster. Gauchan was first on the list.

Rekha Gurung, Saraswati Gurung and Parvati Tamang, who are ahead of Thapa on the list, are already serving as Gandaki Province Assembly members.
