ITAHARI: Sunil Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress (NC) has been elected unopposed to the National Assembly.
Since no other nomination was received for the open cluster from Koshi Province within the stipulated time on Wednesday, Thapa is certain to be elected unanimously. However, the Election Commission will make a formal declaration on January 11.
Although the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) had picked Hemraj Ghimire for the open cluster from Koshi Province, Ghimire did not file his nomination.
Thapa’s candidacy was proposed by Uddhab Thapa and seconded by Regina Bhattarai.
The NC, the CPN-UML, and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal have formed an alliance for the National Assembly elections.
As per the agreement, NC fielded Thapa in the open cluster, while UML filed nominations in the Dalit and women clusters.
The Election Commission is holding the National Assembly elections on January 25.
