KATHMANDU: Sunar Bahadur Gurung has been nominated as the coordinator of the Training & Mountaineering Committee of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
According to NMA, Ang Norbu Sherpa is the joint coordinator of the committee, while Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Sanjeev Gurung, Pasang Lama, Dawa Tashi Sherpa, Ramkaji Tiwari, Vinayak Jay Malla, and Hareram Khadka have been nominated as members.
NMA President Nima Nuru Sherpa said he was hopeful that Gurung and his team would be able to bring a mountaineering training institute into operation. “He is Nepal’s first international mountain guide. My expectation is that he will be able to establish a mountaineering training institute under NMA,” he added.
Gurung has expressed commitment to organizing NMA’s regular training programs in a more managed and professional manner.
Born in Dharche-4 of Gorkha, Gurung is the first Nepali mountain guide to be certified by IFMGA. He is the managing director of Trinetra Adventure. He also led the Nepali Civil Servant Everest Expedition 2011 as the expedition coordinator. Likewise, he also served on the curriculum sub-committee of the Nepal Mountain Academy.
