Sumana Shrestha quits RSP with sharp criticism of leadership

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and former Education Minister Sumana Shrestha has resigned from the party. She announced her decision through a social media post on Sunday.

“If you want to attack me openly, I have made it easier now. Do as you please for as long as you like. I have left the party,” she wrote, referring to the party leadership.

Shrestha accused the party leadership of repeatedly making mistakes but never acknowledging them. She said such behavior was unacceptable to her. “Should everyone in the party be forced to carry the burden of repeated mistakes?” she questioned. “And is it right to conduct media trials against those who raise internal criticism?”

Shrestha added that she had been criticizing the party leadership since the RSP began prioritizing the party over the country and the leader over the party. “But nothing has changed—now there are even more media trials. This is unacceptable,” she added. ”

She also told third-generation leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and other parties that the current situation arose not because of them but the conduct of their respective leaderships. “Why do you keep carrying this burden? Perhaps this is the time. Stop worshipping your leaders. Either remove them, or you step aside,” she added.
