Sudurpashchim Chief Minister wins trust vote

KATHMANDU: Sudurpashchim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has secured the vote of confidence with a two-thirds majority.

Out of 45 members who participated in the voting on Shah’s motion of vote of confidence in Sudurpashchim Province Assembly on Wednesday, 36 voted in favor of Shah while eight voted against his proposal and one remained neutral.

Shah, who was appointed to the province government’s top post on August 4, is leading a coalition government of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. Eighteen members of NC, 11 of UML and seven of Nagarik Unmukti Party voted in favor of Shah’s proposal.

However, four members from the CPN (Maoist Center) and as many from the CPN (Unified Socialist) voted against his proposal. Six members of the Maoist Center and one member from Rastriya Janata Party were absent, while independent Tara Prasad Joshi remained neutral.

Maoist Center has 11 members, including the Speaker, in the province assembly.
