Subash Nembang’s never-ending parliamentary journey

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice President Subash Chandra Nembang has been reelected to the House of Representatives from Ilam-2 constituency.

According to the Election Commission, Nembang received 20,020 votes to defeat his closest contender – Dambar Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress – by 115 votes. Khadka received 29,905 votes.

Nembang served as the Speaker of the reinstated parliament in 2006, and chairperson of Constituent Assembly (CA) of 2008 and 2013.

He was a member of the National Assembly between 1991 and 1994. The soft-spoken leader was also elected member of the National Assembly after the 1994 election. Nembang has won all elections he has contested since 1999.

Nembang, who was practicing law before joining politics, was appointed Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in 1993. He has also held General Administration and Local Development portfolios.
