KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that there should be no statute of limitations on corruption cases.
Speaking at a House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Lamichhane said that a five-year statute of limitations for corruption cases is unacceptable under any circumstances. “This is the official stance of our party. We will not accept a five-year statute of limitations for corruption cases. No ifs, no buts – our position is clear,” he added.
The Bill to Amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, which is under consideration in the House of Representatives, proposes a five-year statute of limitations for filing cases against certain corruption offenses.
RSP’s central committee meeting held earlier this week decided that the party would lobby against setting a statute of limitations on corruption cases. “The meeting has decided to lobby against any statute of limitations for corruption and to oppose such limitations through various means, including street protests and parliamentary debates,” RSP Officiating Spokesperson Manish Jha said after the meeting.
