KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has clarified that while it does not intend to interfere with the ongoing investigation into the cooperative fraud misappropriation case, it strongly opposes the politically motivated detention of party president Rabi Lamichhane.

Speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu on Tuesday, RSP said it condemns, what it perceives as, politically targeted action against its leadership. RSP Officiating Spokesperson Manish Jha accused the state of bringing out unsubstantiated claims against Lamichhane and imposing one-sided blame. He criticized the selective legal approach, pointing out that former Koshi minister Lilaballav Adhikari has not faced legal action despite sufficient evidence, while individuals without clear proof are being detained.

“Merely signing a check does not constitute evidence. There should also be other supporting documents,” Jha said. He also urged the media to avoid unnecessary and exaggerated discussions about the check-related matter.

RSP leaders said they were are ready to face consequences if legal action is initiated against them for expressing opinions on social media.
