KATHMANDU: The dispute over the names of the two films, ‘Actor’ and ‘Aktor: Take One’, has been resolved.
Producers of ‘Actor’ agreed to withdraw a court case against the producers of ‘Aktor: Take One’ following a lengthy discussion on Thursday. After the meeting, it was announced that the producers of ‘Actor’ have decided to withdraw the copyright infringement case filed against ‘Aktor: Take One’ at the Kathmandu District Court.
“Today, an agreement has been reached between the producers of ‘Actor’, Nepali Diaspora Entertainment, and the joint producers of ‘Aktor: Take One’, Adreeth Films and Moti Films, to allow the nationwide screening of ‘Aktor: Take One’, starting Thursday,” a joint statement issued by the producers of two films read. “The case filed at the Kathmandu District Court under the Copyright Act, seeking appropriate compensation, has been withdrawn to prevent further damage to Aktor: Take One.”
Earlier, Samrat Thapa, representing Nepali Diaspora Entertainment, had filed a writ at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday, claiming that ‘Aktor: Take One’ had stolen the name and storyline of their film. Hearing the petition, the district court had issued a temporary order to stop the screening of ‘Aktor: Take One’ and ordered both sides to attend a discussion next week.
The decision affected the nationwide release of ‘Aktor: Take One’ scheduled for Wednesday.
