KATHMANDU: Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has decided not to continue under the central contract of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

He announced the decision through a Facebook post on Wednesday few hours before the national team leaves for Scotland to play in the World Cricket League (WCL) 2 tri-series with Scotland and the Netherlands. Nepal will play four ODI matches in the tri-series – two each against Scotland and the Netherlands. Lamichhane is a part of the 15-member squad named for the tri-series.

Lamichhane has said that this move is to pursue personal and professional growth, not a step away from cricket or the nation. He has expressed gratitude to CAN for their continuous support throughout his journey and affirmed his commitment to playing for Nepal.

“I will continue playing for Nepal with the same passion and dedication as always. That pride and responsibility will forever remain close to my heart,” he said.

Earlier on March 13, CAN offered Grade ‘A’ contracts to Lamichhane as well as Captain Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sompal Kami and Asif Sheikh. Players under Grade ‘A’ contract draw a monthly salary of Rs 100,000.

CAN has yet to respond to Lamichhane’s decision not to continue with its central contract.
