KATHMANDU: Two Indian airlines, SpiceJet and Air India Express, are preparing to launch scheduled flights to Kathmandu.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), SpiceJet is resuming its daily flight on the New Delhi–Kathmandu-New Delhi route from May 10, while Air India Express is launching Kathmandu flights from Bengaluru from June 1. The carrier has not finalized the launch date of its Mumbai-Kathmandu flight.
Spice Jet flight will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 9:55 am and depart at 10:55 am. The airline is operating a Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft for the flight.
The carrier had stopped flying to Kathmandu during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to CAAN, the Bangalore flight of Air India Express will arrive in Kathmandu at 8:05 am and depart at 9:05 am. Similarly, the Mumbai flight will land at 5:05 pm and depart at 6:00 pm.
Wth this, the number of Indian airlines operating regular flights to Kathmandu will reach four. Air India has six daily flights on the New Delhi–Kathmandu route, while IndiGo operates two flights from New Delhi and one from Mumbai to Kathmandu.
Similarly, state-owned Nepal Airlines operates direct flights to New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore from Kathmandu, while Buddha Air flies to Varanasi from Kathmandu.
Bhutanese carriers—Bhutan Airlines and Druk Air—also fly to New Delhi from Kathmandu and vice versa.
