KATHMANDU: The Special Court has convicted former minister Ram Kumar Shrestha in a corruption case.
A division bench of Judges Yamuna Bhattarai and Khushi Prasad Tharu found Shrestha, along with his wife, Saraswati, and son, Saroj, guilty.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Shrestha, his wife, and his son, alleging that they had illegally amassed Rs 45.52 million.
Shrestha retired from civil service as a secretary and was subsequently appointed as a minister in the government led by then Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) election in 2013. During his tenure, he held three ministerial portfolios: culture, tourism, and civil aviation; peace and reconstruction; and youth and sports.
