Speaker tells parties to send names for house committees by Thursday

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has requested political to send names of lawmakers for different parliamentary committees at the earliest.

“If you give names of leaders for joint, thematic, and special committees, parliament can function effectively. I request you to send names by Thursday,” Ghimire said in the business advisory meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday.

Parties forged an understanding on the formation of house committees on Monday. As per the understanding, NC and UML will take leadership of two joint committees of the federal parliament. NC will lead the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, while UML will take leadership of the State Direction, Principle Rules, and Responsibility Committee.
