Speaker Devraj Ghimire
KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has directed the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Nepali student Prisha Shah at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India.
During an emergency session of the House of Representatives on Monday, the Speaker issued the ruling after lawmakers expressed grave concern over the matter.
“The recurring mysterious deaths of students who go abroad with dreams of a brighter future are a deeply troubling issue tied to our national responsibility and sensitivity,” Ghimire said. “I urge the government to take this incident seriously, establish the facts through high-level diplomatic engagement with the Indian government and provide the necessary legal support to the victim’s family.”
He also called for long-term policy measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Nepali students abroad.
