KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire left for Geneva on Sunday to participate in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations.
He is leading a three-member delegation, which includes House of Representatives member Eknath Dhakal and the Speaker’s chief personal secretary Tej Prakash Bhattarai.
Speaker Ghimire is scheduled to address the conference, which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to August 1. During the conference, he will hold bilateral meetings with Speakers from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Malta, Israel and Bhutan. He will also attend a dinner hosted by the Federal Assembly of Switzerland.
Ghimire will return to Nepal on August 2.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar returned home late Sunday evening after concluding a six-day official visit to China.
Magar had left for China on July 23 to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit held in Henan Province from July 22 to July 26.
Addressing the summit, Rana said SCO stands as a beacon of cooperation, friendship and regional integration. “We believe that safeguarding peace today requires addressing contemporary, multifaceted challenges,” she said. “Only through dialogue, partnership and collective solutions can we ensure our common security and prosperity.”
Under Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Jagadish Neupane, was also in the team.
