KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has warned that the social media bill will undermine freedom of expression if is passed in its current form.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Koirala said there should be no debate about preventing the control of free speech under the guise of regulation.
“The social media bill has just been introduced in parliament and discussions are pending. If this bill passes as it stands, it will directly impact people’s freedom of expression,” he added.
Koirala insisted that it is necessary to withdraw the bill and hold thorough discussions with stakeholders and social media users before introducing any new legislation.
