KATHMANDU: Nepal imported smartphones worth Rs 13.4 billion in the first four months of fiscal year 2024/25.
According to foreign trade data of the first fourth months of fiscal year 2024/25 released on Friday by the Department of Customs, a total of 827,925 units of smartphones were imported into the country during the review period. Nearly two-thirds of the country’s smartphone imports came from China. Data shows Nepal imported Rs 9.19 billion worth of smartphones from China, while Rs 4.02 billion worth of smartphones came from India.
In the fourth month alone i.e. mid-October to mid-November, Nepal imported mobile phones worth nearly Rs. 4 billion.
Smartphones ranked as the country’s fifth-largest import during the four-month period. The government mobilized Rs. 2.49 billion in revenue from smartphone imports during the period.
Nepal had imported 1.83 million units of smartphones worth Rs 28.66 billion in the previous fiscal year.
