POKHARA: A self-loading rifle (SLR) was recovered from Fewa Lake in Pokhara on Friday.

Kumar Jalari (42), a local fisherman, alerted police after his fishing net became entangled in the weapon while he was fishing in Khapaudi, Pokhara-18.

Separate teams from the District Police Office, Kaski, and the Ward Police Office, Baidam, reached the site to retrieve the firearm. “The SLR’s buttplate bears the serial number 111, while the frame carries serial number 13810,” said DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson for Kaski Police. “A magazine loaded with 18 rounds was also recovered.”

According to DSP Basnet, police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The recovery comes months after several weapons were looted from police offices across the country during the so-called “Gen Z protest” on September 8 and 9.
