Six movie theaters vandalized after Gen Z protest

KATHMANDU: As many as six movie theaters were vandalized after the Gen Z protest escalated on September 8.

According to the Nepal Motion Pictures Association, three QFX theaters operating at Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket outlets in Biratnagar, Butwal and Bhaktapur suffered extensive damage. Similarly, INI Cinema outlets at Lhotse Mall, Gongabu and NB Center, New Baneshwar, as well as Astanarayan Pictures in Balaju were also vandalized.

Among these, the QFX theater in Biratnagar was completely destroyed, according to the association. The association estimates that the combined losses across the three QFX theaters amount to approximately Rs 170 million. Similarly, the ticket counter of the INI Cinema outlet at Lhotse Mall was set on fire, while the projection equipment on the sixth floor was damaged. The other two theaters have reported damage in exterior structures.

Meanwhile, the association has said that all movie theaters across the country will reopen on Monday.
