KATHMANDU: Police have arrested six Indian nationals, who had reached Upper Mustang area near the border with Tibet, China, without permission.

A restricted area permit is a must for foreigners to travel to Upper Mustang. The permit costs $500 for the first 10 days and $50 per day after that.

DSP Bhoj Pandey, the chief of the District Police Office, Mustang, said Shiva Kumar Gurung, Birsen Gurung, Rikshang Gurung, Durga Gurung, Abhishek Gurung and Siddhartha Gurung from West Bengal state of India were arrested by Nechung Border Outpost of the Armed Police Force after they failed to produce restricted area permit.

Mustang police have sent Indian nationals to Pokhara for further investigation.
