Sirohiya’s arrest not an attack on press freedom: Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli has said that the arrest of Kantipur Media Group (KMG) Chairperson Kailash Sirahiya is not an attack on press freedom.

Talking to reporters in Jhapa, Oli expressed dissatisfaction over comments that democracy is under threat and press freedom was compromised due to Sirahiya’s arrest. “Has the government said that he was arrested because of something he wrote? Such a wrong interpretation is not appropriate,” he said.

Oli said there was no need for an uproar over the arrest of someone from the media industry. “There is a different charge against him. The government needs to investigate it,” Oli added
