KATHMANDU: The Dhanusha District Court has remanded Kailash Sirohiya, Chairperson of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), to police custody for three days.
The District Police Office, Dhanusha, presented Sirohiya before the court on Wednesday and sought a five-day remand. However, District Judge Churaman Khadka allowed police to keep Sirohiya in custody for only three days.
Sirohiya is under investigation by the District Police Office, Dhanusha, on charges of holding two citizenship certificates. He was arrested from the KMG Office in Thapathali, Kathmandu, and transferred to Dhanusha on Tuesday evening.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Sirohiya’s legal counsel argued that there was no risk of him fleeing or destroying evidence and requested the court to allow the investigation to proceed without keeping him in custody. They also claimed that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane orchestrated Sirohiya’s arrest out of personal vendetta.
