Singh sworn in as Madhesh Chief Minister, forms 14-member cabinet

KATHMANDU: The newly appointed Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh of Janamat Party has formed a 14-member cabinet.

According to a statement issued the Office of the Province Chief, Singh’s cabinet include 11 ministers, including himself, and three ministers.

Province Chief Sumitra Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister Singh and other 10 ministers of his cabinet amid a ceremony on Friday.

Chief Minister Singh later administered that oath of office and secrecy to three ministers of state of his cabinet.

Six members, including a minister of state, of his cabinet are from CPN-UML, two each from CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist), and one each from Nepal Samajbadi party and Nagarik Unmukti Party. Singh and Minister of State Ranju Kumari Mandal Khang are the only representatives of the Janamat Party in the Madhesh cabinet.

This is the first time that Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal) has been out of power in Madhesh Province since the 2017 election. Lal Babu Raut of JSP Nepal served the full five-year term as the Chief Minister of the Province after the 2017 election. JSP Nepal’s Saroj Kuman Yadav of JSP Nepal was elected Chief Minister of after the 2022 election. However, he was relieved of the position on Wednesday after failing to secure a vote of confidence in the province assembly.
