Sikkim club Thunderbolt North United defeats Sankata 3-1

KATHMANDU: Thunderbolt North United of Sikkim, India, has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup, defeating two-time champion Sankata Club 3-1 at the Pokhara Stadium on Friday.

Sankata opened the scoring in the 17th minute, as Manish Poudel superbly controlled a pass from Pasang Lama and struck a low ball past Thunderbolt North United’s keeper.

Franklin Quete Tala equalized for Thunderbolt from the spot in the 35th minute. Thunderbolt was awarded the penalty after Sankata defender Abhishek Waiba brought down Thunderbolt’s Karan Rai inside the box.

Karan Rai put Thunderbolt ahead in the 77th minute, as he connected to a long pass into the box from Thunderbolt substitute Andrew from the right wing.

Adarsha Tamag extended Thunderbolt’s lead in the 89th minute, as he stole possession from a Sankata defender in the center and unleashed a powerful shot into the empty net after the keeper had come out of the box.

Thunderbolt will face Uzbekistan’s Black Bulls FC in the quarterfinal.
