KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said that the signature campaign initiated by the party’s General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma could lead to a party split.
During a discussion with a few party leaders at his residence on Thursday morning, Sitaula said that although the fire is currently confined within the party, there is now a growing risk of it spreading throughout the entire organisation.
“The signature campaign being led by both general secretaries could push the party toward division,” he said. “Once those who sign and those who don’t form separate groups, the party could naturally split into two factions.”
At a time when calls for a special general convention are being raised within the party, preparations are underway to discuss the campaign initiated by the two general secretaries in the Central Working Committee meeting.
Sitaula urged party leaders not to engage in activities that fuel unrest within the organization.
