KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has suspended Sub Inspector Ritesh Thapa for assaulting a player of the Nepal Police Club.
Thapa, a former Nepali national team goalkeeper, physically attacked Assistant Head Constable Bharat Sah at a restaurant in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, on June 26.
The incident occurred during a party hosted by Nepali Women’s Football Team Coach Ananta Thapa to celebrate Nepal’s victory in the friendly series against Bangladesh.
Sources who attended the party say that both individuals got into an altercation while under the influence of alcohol. Thapa mercilessly trashed Sah, they added.
AIG Tek Prasad Rai, the chief of Nepal Police Training Academy, said Thapa has been suspended from duty pending a thorough investigation into the matter.
Additionally, the Nepal Police Training Academy has formed a committee led by SSP Bel Prasad Pandey to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the incident.
