KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order directing the Election Commission (EC) not to implement its decision to register the Janaswaraj Party.
The EC had registered the party formed after the split of the Janamat Party led by Dr CK Raut on October 14.
A single bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha issued the interim order on Friday. The bench has instructed the EC to halt the execution of its decision.
Dr Raut had challenged the EC’s decision to register the party at the apex court, demanding a writ of certiorari against the EC’s move.
The top court has also sought a written response from the defendants on why the writ of certiorari should not be issued as demanded by the plaintiffs.
The SC has scheduled the next hearing for November 3.
