KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has expressed full confidence in getting elected to the position of president in the party’s 15th General Convention.
Speaking at a press conference in Dhangadhi on Sunday, Koirala claimed that he is not only contesting for the presidency but is also determined to win. Koirala also said he expects support from everyone.
“The incumbent president, Sher Bahadur Deuba, is respected by all. Continuous discussions and meetings are taking place with him,” Koirala said.
The NC constitution bars Deuba from rerunning for the party presidency. However, his support will be crucial for winning the election for the party presidency.
The NC must hold its general convention by December next year. However, the party leadership can postpone the convention by a year citing special circumstances.
General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa is also expected to run for the party presidency in the 15th General Convention.
