KATHMANDU: Internal conflicts in Nepali Congress (NC) have come to the surface yet again. Leaders of the anti-establishment faction of the party have expressed objection to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba for not holding any discussion with them while selecting chief ministers and ministers of provincial governments.
With the NC forming coalition governments in three provinces and joining coalition governments in the remaining four provinces, the anti-establishment faction of the party led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala has sought ministerial berths in provincial governments for its leaders.
Koirala held discussions with Deputy President Dhanraj Gurung, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, and other leaders to draw the President’s attention toward their demands on Tuesday.
A leader close to Dr. Koirala said the faction has sought 13 cabinet berths for its leaders in provincial governments. The faction has sought three ministerial berths in Bagmati, two each in Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini, and one each in Sudurpaschim and Karnali.
Although the faction had put forth their demands to President Deuba on Tuesday, they have not received any response thus far.
Deputy President Gurung told Himal Press that they have requested President Deuba to move ahead through coordination and cooperation in the party. “The President told us he would do the needful. But nothing concrete has happened so far,” Gurung added.
