KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has convened a meeting of leaders affiliated with the party’s anti-establishment faction to prepare for the upcoming central working committee meeting of the party.

The central working committee meeting of the NC kicks off at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Thursday.

Dr. Koirala, who ran for the position of party president in 14th general convention of the party, has extended invitations to elected office-bearers, central committee members, as well as the defeated candidates to participate in the meeting.

Furthermore, Dr. Koirala has invited General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pradeep Poudel, who was defeated in the election for the general secretary position, in the 14th general convention.

Sharma contested the election as a candidate from Prakash Man Singh’s panel, while Poudel ran from the panel of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. Poudel is known for his allegiance to party leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula who supported Deuba during the election.

Both Sharma and Poudel had supported General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa during the election for the parliamentary party leader held in December last year.

The Shekhar Koirala faction of the NC has scheduled a meeting for 2 pm on Tuesday. It is expected that the leaders will discuss strategies and how to position themselves effectively in the upcoming central committee meeting.

Dr. Koirala is devising strategies to contest the election for the position of President in the 15th general convention of the party.
