KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that the party is deviating away from the people.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 13th annual general meeting of the Democratic Lawyers Association, Nepal, in Chitwan on Friday, Koirala said the time has come to justify why the party is needed and for whom.
Koirala said the party needs to bring programs to connect with the people. “We have a stockpile of challenges. Party conventions, local body elections, general elections, and by-elections have laid bare our challenges and opportunities,” Koirala said. “It is unfortunate that the party is deviating away from the people. The first and foremost thing, therefore, should be to bring programs to reconnect with the people.”
He also said the party would lose relevance if it fails to connect with the people and strengthen internal discipline and democracy.
“Nepali Congress is the leading party in the country. Everyone is aware of its historical legacy,” he said. “But we will now have to justify why the party is needed and for whom.”
