Sharma presents four proposals to party leadership for general convention

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma has submitted four proposals to Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka for the upcoming general convention.

During a meeting with Khadka ahead of the party’s Central Working Committee at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Thursday, Sharma presented detailed suggestions regarding the general convention.

As the first option, Sharma suggested that the Central Working Committee discuss and endorse the schedule proposed by General Secretary Gagan Thapa.

Thapa has proposed holding the general convention on December 13-15.

As the second option, Sharma has urged the party leadership to consider invoking Article 17 (2) of the party statute, which allows the Central Committee to call a special convention by mid-December. Sharma insisted that this provision could provide a practical way forward to make decisive progress within the party.

Sharma’s third option states that a general convention can be organized if more than 40% of general convention representatives submit a written request.

As the fourth option, Sharma has proposed taking additional time for preparation and holding the regular general convention from December 31 to January 3. He said those dates would carry symbolic meaning, as they coincide with the historic occasion when leader BP Koirala returned to Nepal advocating for national unity and reconciliation.
