KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said that the government brought the ordinance to withdraw cases against leaders and cadres of political groups without holding any discussion in the party.
“It is completely wrong to not realize the need for a deep discussions discussion between the parties and within their own party to bring the ordinance during this transition period,” Sharma wrote on his social media page.
He wrote further: “Not only legal and political questions, moral questions are also connected to this case.”
The cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to bring an ordinance to amend National Civil Code, 2017, to offer amnesty to cadres and leaders of Resham Chaudhary-led Nagarik Unmukti Party, Netra Bikram Chand Biplab-led Nepal Communist Party and CK Raut-led Janamat Party, among others.
The ruling coalition, which failed to get a majority in the November 20 election, is trying to attract Nagarik Unmukti Party and Janamat Party to form the government.
While Janamat Party has already decided to join the coalition, Nagarik Unmukti Party has set Resham Chaudhary’s release as a condition to join the government.
District Court Kailali has handed life sentences to Resham Chaudhary and 10 others convicting them in the infamous Tikapur incident which claimed nine lives. The Dipayal High Court has upheld the district court’s verdict. He has filed appeal at the Supreme Court against the decision of the lower courts.
