Sharma asks state to act tough against corrupts

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has emphasized the need to take strong action against corruption.

Speaking at a discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill, 2023, in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Sharma suggested that the government should thoroughly investigate the Bhutanese refugees’ scam and take it to a logical conclusion.

Sharma expressed concern over the proposed amendment to the Corruption Prevention Act, 2002, which includes a five-year timeframe for filing complaints against corruption cases. He argued that this proposal contradicts the policy of zero tolerance against corruption. Sharma stated, “The proposal is contradictory. I urge everyone to demand that the state take strict action in investigating corruption.”

He further called upon the ruling and opposition parties to collaborate in addressing the current economic challenges. To avert an economic crisis, Sharma gave a nine-point suggestion, which includes measures such as reducing public expenditure, addressing unsettled expenses, and curbing revenue leakage and corruption.

Stating that not a single prime minister has served a full five-year term in the past seven decades, Sharma called on the parties to express commitment to the people that the parliament will function for the complete duration of five years.
