KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak to the seventh straight session, gaining 35.39 points to close at 2,141.87 points on Wednesday.
Shares worth Rs 7 billion exchanged hands on the day through 11,723 transactions. This is the highest daily turnover on the bourse since January 10 when shares worth Rs 7.29 billion were traded.
Share prices of 161 companies advanced on the day, while 78 declined, and five remained unchanged. Such was the buying pressure on the bourse that share prices of 15 companies hit the positive circuit of 10%. Shivam Cement Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 373.49 million worth of shares traded. Following closely were Soaltee Hotel Limited and Sonapur Oil and Minerals Ltd with turnovers of Rs 245.37 million and Rs 201.52 million, respectively. In terms of volume, Himalayan Dolakha Hydropower Company was at the top with 1.16 million units of shares traded.
Except for Hotels & Tourism and Non-life Insurance sub-indices, all other trading groups ended the day in the green. The highest gain came from the Manufacturing & Process sub-index, which ended the day 7.15% higher. Investment and Trading sub-indices were next, posting gains of 6.92% and 6.2%, respectively.
Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.31 trillion on Wednesday.
