Shah betters national record in 100m freestyle*

KATHMANDU: Nepali swimmer Alex Shah has bettered his national records in the Men’s 100-meter Freestyle in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the qualifying round held on Tuesday, Shah finished third with a timing of 51.91 seconds, bettering his national record of 52.17 set in the World Championships held in last February in Doha.

Z Alsarraj topped the Heat 3 ahead of A Sabovic and Shah. Alsarraj finished with a timing of 51.21 seconds while Savovoic clocked 51.77 seconds.

Shah is only the third swimmer to participate in consecutive editions of the Olympics. He had set a national record of 53.41 seconds in 100m freestyle in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

He missed out on the spot in the semifinal despite finishing third in his qualifying heat as 16 fastest swimmers are selected for the semifinal.
