Seven programs affected due to USAID funding suspension: Finance ministry

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has said that the implementation of seven programs has been affected due to the suspension of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, the ministry said that four programs related to education, health, agriculture and statistics have been suspended for 90 days.

Likewise, the ministry also said that three other programs on biodiversity, provincial and local governance strengthening and climate-resilient municipal services, which were in the design phase, will not be implemented for the time being.

Shyam Prasad Bhandari, a joint secretary at the ministry, said funding agreements had not been signed for the three programs.

The US government has been providing continuous grant assistance to Nepal since 1951, supporting various programs aimed at the country’s economic, social, and infrastructure development. However, recent decisions by US President Donald Trump have led to the suspension of USAID programs in Nepal.
