POKHARA: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged pro-monarchy forces not to dream of the reinstatement of the monarchy in the country.
Commenting on pro-monarchy supporters’ claim that they would put the king on the throne on May 29, Oli said they can set up a throne at home. “The country’s throne is long gone,” he said, addressing the 10th National Convention of CPM-UML’s youth wing, Youth Association of Nepal, in Pokhara on Friday.
Oli also criticized Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, calling him an “impulsive” person, although he didn’t mention his name. “They say the Prime Minister should prepare to flee, and they will provide a helicopter for it. What kind of dreams are they seeing? I don’t recall exactly who said it, but some impulsive person did,” Oli said.
Lingden had said on Wednesday that the protests starting from May 29 could create a situation where leaders might need to flee. “We can provide a helicopter to them,” Lingden had said.
Stating that propaganda campaigns were being launched against the UML, Oli urged party members not to be swayed by them and remain united. “UML is a party that works. There have been attempts to create a rift within UML. We, all patriots, and those who want good governance and prosperity, must unite today to break those attempts,” he added.
Oli said the younger generation must now take the lead in the country’s development and urged youth leaders to step forward.
