Senior leaders failed to work in line with the spirit of federalism: Dr Koirala

JANAKPURDHAM: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has accused senior leaders of major political parties of failing to work in line with the spirit of federalism.

Talking to journalists at Janakpurdham on Sunday, Koirala said leaders, including himself, must take responsibility for this failure. “The failure of senior leaders to adhere to federal principles has directly impacted the functioning of provincial governments. The provinces are unable to operate effectively because the federal government hasn’t enacted essential laws, including the Civil Service Act, Education Act, and Police Act,” he added.

Dr Koirala also said that the federal government’s reluctance to pass these crucial laws stems from a fundamental lack of understanding of federalism among senior leaders.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the current government. “While the coalition of two major parties was formed to ensure political stability and good governance, the government has failed to function with that spirit,” he said. “The coalition government’s performance is unsatisfactory, but failure is not an option. If this government collapses, the country could descend into chaos.”
