KATHMANDU: Senior journalist and former chairman of the Nepal Press Institute, Gokul Pokharel, passed away on Monday at the age of 88.
Pokharel breathed his last in Kathmandu at 10:30 am, according to family members. He had been suffering from heart and lung ailments.
The veteran journalist began his career in journalism as a reporter with the RSS news agency and eventually served as its Acting General Manager. Pokharel, proficient in both English and Nepali languages, also held the position of Member of the National Human Rights Commission.
Pokharel is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. He will be cremated on Tuesday, according to family members.
