KATHMANDU: The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) is set to begin on Friday.
According to Mahashram Sharma, Chairman of the National Examination Board (NEB), the exam will start simultaneously at all centers at 8 am. “All the necessary preparations for the examination have been completed. We held a virtual meeting with representatives of all concerned bodies from all 77 districts, seeking support and cooperation to hold the examination in a peaceful, dignified, and orderly manner,” Sharma said.
Sharma also stated that all tasks, including the appointment of examination superintendents at all centers, security arrangements, mobilization of the workforce, and the delivery of question papers and answer sheets to all examination centers, have been completed.
According to SEE Examination Controller Bishnu Narayan Shrestha, education secretaries of all seven provinces, directors of education development directorates of all seven provinces, chiefs of education development and coordination units in all 77 districts, and chiefs of NEB’s province offices across the country participated in the virtual meeting. The meeting decided that Province Examination Management Committees will take care of conducting, managing, and monitoring the examinations in their respective provinces.
Nearly 500,000 students
Although 516,591 students had registered to appear in the SEE examination in Grade 9, only 484,227 students will be taking the exam this year. In comparison, 495,648 students appeared in the SEE examination last year.
Bagmati Province has the highest number of SEE examinees in the country, with 106,959 students, while Karnali Province has the lowest, with 41,329 examinees. Additionally, nearly 15,000 students will be taking the Technical SEE examination, which includes vocational subjects such as agriculture and veterinary science, etc.
Students of 7,200 community schools and 4,564 institutional schools are participating in the examination. The National Examination Board has set up 2,037 examination centers, including one in Japan, for the examination. Fifteen students from the Japan-based Everest International School are also taking the examination.
